Blue Velvet - 31.20 m
To design Blue Velvet was a wonderful experience. The Owner gave us only a few indications what he wanted and gave us a lot of freedom to achieve that. A large sundeck, a garage with boat, jet-ski, windsurfer and diving equipment were among the most important requirements. The speed requirement was simple: over 40 knots. The length had to be around 100 ft.
The outside lay-out shows a full-width salon with large windows, giving a spectacular view. The upper deck gives a lot of sunbathing area, but also an intimate seating arrangement aft of the wheelhouse. Access to the upper deck is by comfortable stairs from the fore as well as from the aft deck. On the aft deck a large table with comfortable seating for outside dining.
The relative small wheelhouse is designed for single pilot operation, where a lot of attention has been given to create a practical lay out. A comfortable seat under a light-dome has been created to watch the activity in comfort from the wheelhouse.
One of the most striking things is the use of leather for almost everything in the interior. Floors, walls and ceilings are leather in its natural colour. To assure a successful project, it is very important to maintain a strict weight control. Both the yard and the interior designer were very motivated and the result was that Blue Velvet came out lighter than projected.
In October 1995 Blue Velvet was awarded the Superyacht Design Award 1994 in the range of yachts between 23-43m.
